Arjen Kool brings a wealth of experience from both international organisations and the diplomatic service. He began his career as a Logistic Engineer at AT&T Telecommunication in Jakarta, Indonesia (1991–1993), before taking on the role of Programme Coordinator at the United Nations Industrial Organization and International Labour Office in Mauritius and Geneva (1993–2001). Since 2001, Arjen Kool has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with assignments in The Hague, Pakistan, Tanzania, Israel, and Peru. Since 2024, he has served as Cluster Coordinator Sustainable Energy at the Directorate International Enterprising, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His academic background includes an MSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Twente, The Netherlands (1986–1991), participation in the Executive Leadership and Negotiation Programme at Harvard Business School (2015–2016), as well as summer courses in International Economics and Environment, Society and Economics at the London School of Economics (2013 and 2024).
