Mr Binning is Executive General Manager at the Clean Energy Regulator and brings extensive experience of over 30 years in the environment and natural resource management throughout Australia.
He has held leadership roles across government, industry, community sector, research and consulting organisations working at the interface between communities, natural resources and the environment. His experience in the practice of sustainable development spans climate change, water management, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, mining, urban development, indigenous affairs and community development.
Prior to joining the Clean Energy Regulator, Mr Binning held leadership roles at the Murray Darling Basin Authority, National Indigenous Australians Agency and the Western Australian Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development.
Mr Binning was Managing Director of Creating Communities a boutique consulting group providing community development services to private and public sector clients. He worked within BHP Billiton’s Iron Ore Business as Vice President Health, Safety, Environment and Communities. He was a member of the global executive responsible for the development and execution of strategies that deliver a safe workplace and the sustainable development of the communities and environment in which the Iron Ore business works.
Prior to joining BHP Billiton, Mr Binning was Chief Executive of Greening Australia, (Australia’s largest environment organisation). Mr Binning has also played roles at CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems, where he was a Principal Research Economist, and within the Commonwealth Departments of Environment and Prime Minister and Cabinet, advising on the design of economic policies and institutions for natural resource management.
